Happy New Year! I suppose now it’s a tradition. Like last year and the year before, we spent New Year’s Eve in Houston, at the Rockin’ New Year’s Noon Party at the Children’s Museum. We enjoyed play time at the museum, and then we marched in the parade and counted down at noon with a ball drop and confetti followed by fun dancing to the tunes played by a live DJ. Lunch was at Cheddar’s, followed by chill time back at the house.
Later that night, we had root beer floats and apple pie with ice cream, and the girls piled up in our master bedroom and we watched the fireworks show put on by our neighbors. Ray “prayed in” the New Year on the phone with family, and then we stayed up for another two hours listening to music and talking. It was a memorable celebration!
On New Year’s Day, we enjoyed a delicious, traditional “dinner” with the Schloughs. We had blackeyed peas, red beans and rice, greens, cornbread, and banana pudding. The girls all went off and played upstairs, while the grownups had some (almost) uninterrupted conversation time.
We’re still breaking from school this week, but our first lesson of the new year was to teach the girls (mainly Olivia) how to make effective, S.M.A.R.T. (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time-bound) New Year’s goals / resolutions.
I think we are all looking forward to a new year of great accomplishment and lots of adventure!
