It’s been a whole month already, but, better late than never! Last month, we celebrated Olivia’s 13th birthday. Her birthday falls on the 4th of July, so our celebration is almost always an extravaganza of sorts. Not this year. While we were grateful for the perfect weather for attending the Star-Spangled Salute the day before her birthday (and hanging out with friends there), we were less than thrilled with the thunderstorms that ruined our plans to attend the parade, the festival, and a Fourth of July/birthday celebration at a friend’s home.

Nevertheless, we did indeed make it to Sakekawa Japanese restaurant – our favorite hibachi grill – for the official birthday lunch.

We also left the house again later that night to attend the fireworks extravaganza, and, let me tell you, after several hours of constant raining, the grounds were a muddy mess and the mosquitoes were biting! The fireworks were gloriously beautiful though, so all in all, we ended the day on a great note!
