The girls and I kicked off Memorial Day weekend with a fun “Motown” evening at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Houston. Since Ray was out of town, I recruited my neighbor, Michelle, to join us. Showtime was at 8:15pm, and we left the house at 5:45 to get there in time to park and find a great spot on he hill. We hauled blankets, strollers, and a picnic dinner and enjoyed 4 hours of singing, dancing, chatting, and relaxing. The music was the bomb dot com. They performed everything from the Temptations to Debarge to En Vogue!

We slept in the next morning but eventually made our way to the library to exchange our books, before heading to visit the Costons. It was fun to watch the little ones laugh and play with their cousin!

More adventures on Sunday – an evening at Town Green Park with live music, food, ice cream, inflatables, and fireworks. The big girls and I even got up and did the Cupid Shuffle!

I’m usually very careful about what we’re consuming, but every now and again I like to just let go and splurge. Combined, we had funnel cake, shaved ice, ice cream bars, cheesesteaks, fries, and quesadillas. And nobody got a tummy ache! The fireworks display was phenomenal!

We kept the actual Memorial Day holiday pretty simple. I wanted to do hot dogs, but I forgot the buns, and since I’d already made 2 trips to the store and refused to go again, we did “hotchos” – a nachos / hot dog combo that was less than appealing but we survived. We also had a patriotic dessert (angel food cake with blueberries, strawberries, and cream).

We finished off the weekend by building a fort in the playroom, an effort led mostly by Farrah.

We had a fun time celebrating, but we certainly hope to be joined by Ray for the next holiday!
