We finished our formal study of Scott Joplin and Mary Cassatt (though we’ll continue to lightly study these artists throughout the upcoming months). When studying Joplin, we ran into the term “ring shout” and looked up ring shout videos on YouTube, which segued into an online hunt for modern day step show videos followed by a discussion of college-level sororities and fraternities. I love our rabbit holes! The girls and I really enjoyed watching the step show videos we came across, and shortly afterwards, Olivia was trying to create her own routines.
Our study of Mary Cassatt was enriching also. We read books, learned about her background, and studies many of her popular works of art. Her works portray a lot of tender mother and child moments which the girls seemed to really appreciate.
