This girl is on a ball with learning her math facts. I tried teaching her basic addition when she was 4, and we were getting nowhere. In Kindergarten this past year, they starting introducing addition and subtraction using something called Touch Point Math. While this system of counting dots on the numbers has its purposes, I’ve decided it’s NOT how I want Callie to learn math. I knew she was smart enough to learn the concepts, and she is! I found this great little manipulative at Lakeshore Learning, and she’s breezing through her addition facts a lot faster than I expected. This is part of our daily routine, and we don’t skip a day.  Not only does she enjoy doing math, she sometimes requests to pull it out. We’re also putting in some time working on patterning.
