We read a short story of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” from our book “Beautiful Shakespeare Stories for Children,” but today I thought it would be fun to read some lines from the original play so the girls could get a feel for the language. A few lines and then we’re done… so I thought. The girls really enjoyed reading these lines, and they insisted on reading more and more. Of course, they were cracking up laughing most of the while (so much for a tragedy), simply because the word choice was quite uncommon. We worked together to locate and read lines from the key parts in the play, and that was a fun and insightful exercise.

My goal for the week is to locate and preview a video performance of the play and let the girls watch a few of the milder scenes.

But for now, it’s off to the backyard swings. The afternoon weather is lovely!
