I use the Horizons math curriculum for both Olivia and Farrah. It’s a strong, solid curriculum that has no holes in it like some other programs. For the past two years, Olivia has also been using Teaching Textbooks, a completely different full-course math curriculum. So she does 2 different math lessons each day. Teaching Textbooks is a great self-guided computerized math curriculum that has video lecture, practice problems, and even quizzes and bonus rounds. The problem with TT is that it is almost certainly under grade level. So although she does 4th grade Horizons, she’s currently using Teaching Textbooks for 6th grade.
This week, Farrah began using Teaching Textbooks as well, and she loves it. She does 1st grade Horizons but 3rd grade Teaching Textbooks. Again, I’m listing the levels only to give a feel for the gap between these two programs. Either way, I think using the secondary curriculum is great daily enrichment for them.
