I found a used book called “Fizz, Bubble, & Flash” at our library bookstore and I figured it would be fun to add chemistry to our science this semester (along with geology, life science, and our nature studies). The girls really enjoyed learning about elements, atoms, molecules and the periodic table this morning. We ended our lesson with an electrolysis lab experiment to break down the water molecule H2O. All that was needed was two pencil leads, 2 electrical leads, a jar of water, and a 9-Volt battery. The girls were pleased to see the bubbles forming in the water, and the book helped me explain the electric current flow and the breakdown of the water molecule into the different gases. What fun!
